5 things to do in London with your plus one

Will you be my (EXSELLme Plus One) Valentine?

I must say, here at EXSELLme we love the idea of bringing our loved ones on all sorts of escapades with us. So today we have decided to talk about the 5 Things To Do In London With Your Plus One. Nothing to do with learning English, away from the classroom – just you and your other half, promise!

Plus One: The expression itself comes from the the fact that often one person decides what adventure they wish to go on – or they simply get invited to a wedding – and so bringing your “Plus One” means bringing the person of your choice along with you to join in that very adventure or go to that particular wedding.

When you join our EXSELLme programs in London, we love meeting your friends and family who can share your exploits in London.

So in case you are thinking of tugging your loved ones along with you this summer, here are some romantic ideas for you to explore together in London:

1. Have a drink at Sky Garden

Sky Garden, or Londond’s highest public garden, is basically a bit of a jungle on top of one of the highest skyscrapers in the City of London. Make sure you book your free ticket in advance. Best not to do this on your last day in London as luggage should be limited due to scarcity of space in the lifts that take you up 37 floors. And yes prepare to be searched and put your belongings through the x-ray machine. Don’t worry, though, all the hassle of getting your free ticket in advance then queueing up then being searched is immediately forgotten as soon as you step out of the lift at the top of the building. We recommend going round the two floors first then stepping out onto the open viewing platform to take more snaps. One of the most Instagrammable places in London – with breathtaking birds eye views. You will never see the Tower of London in the same way again. Enjoy! And by the way, if you forget to book your free ticket just call up one of the restaurants at Sky Garden and book a table for light dinner. All guests have access to Sky Garden, of course! Plan to be there for sunset for the most romantic impact!

2. Visit the London Eye

Believe it or not, London Eye has been up and running for 20 years now! And that, despite being put up only as a temporary do for a month or so. Go figure… Pick a sunny day for best photoes! Skip the queues if you can spare a little more budget for it. It is worth it! Once back on the ground, take a stroll down Southbank for an injection of laid-back creativity and the ultimate chill-out spirit. Be sure to stop by Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden for a splash of green and a drink at the heart of the city – and on the banks of the Thames!

3. Walk around Notting Hill and visit the Portobello Market

Even if you haven’t watched “Notting Hill” with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, you will be absolutely smitten with the area. Be sure to plan your visit on a Friday so that you get to enjoy the Portobello Road Market at its best, that is with all the Antique stalls out. Saturday is their main day, of course, but we are not so keen on fighting our way through crowds. So follow EXSELLme’s advice and you will enjoy perhaps one of the most romantic strolls of your life.

4. Order a cocktail in Boundary Rooftop

Boundary Rooftop is great for spectacular views of the City and East London. Remember, under 18s are not allowed on the terrace at any time!

5. Watch a movie in the Electric cinema

And feel like being naughty teenagers once again. Snuggle up on your sofa for a comfy romantic getaway from the crowds of the big city and feel at home there with your loved one. A rather creative set of films on offer. Take your pick. Just make sure you avoid the time slots reserved for parents with screaming babies. Oh yes – the Electric have really thought of accommodating everyone! Sit back and enjoy your favourite film with your favourite person. You are both worth it!

Be inspired.

EXCEL. AND LET EXSELLme BE WITH YOUR EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.

It is all part of the immersion, of course! The whole point is that you surround yourself with all things English during your English Immersion week and that is how you will progress fastest. All the best and hope to see you with us in London in 2020!

Super article !
